How to Make a Skin for Minecraft on Mobile
To make a Minecraft skin on a phone or tablet, install JoyTellect Skin Maker (available for iPhone, iPad and Android), then start from a blank canvas or edit one of the built-in templates. Paint the base colors, add details on the overlay layer, check the 3D preview, and export the finished skin into Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. A first skin takes about ten minutes.

Prerequisites
- JoyTellect Skin Maker installed on your iPhone, iPad or Android device.
- Minecraft: Bedrock Edition on the same device, if you want to use the skin right away.
- A few minutes — a simple first skin takes about ten.
Step by step
- Open Skin Maker and choose a starting point Launch the app and pick either a blank canvas or a template from the gallery. Editing a template is the fastest way to a finished skin; a blank canvas gives you full control.
- Pick your model type (classic or slim) Classic models have wider arms, slim models narrower ones. Choose the type that matches your in-game character model, or the skin will look distorted later.
- Paint the base colors Block in the large areas first — skin tone, hair, top, bottom, shoes — using the fill and brush tools. Details come later; a clean base makes them easier.
- Add details with layers Switch to the overlay layer for hair strands, outfit trims, patterns and accessories. Keeping details on the overlay means you can adjust them without repainting the base.
- Preview from all angles Rotate the 3D preview and check the front, back and sides. Pay attention to the seams where arms and legs wrap around — that is where mistakes hide.
- Export and import into your game Save the finished skin and use the app's export option to send it to Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, then select it in your character's profile. You can also save the skin file to your device to use elsewhere.
Troubleshooting
My skin looks stretched or has misplaced patches
This almost always means the skin was made for the wrong model type. Open the skin in Skin Maker, switch between classic and slim, and re-export the version that matches your in-game character model.
Colors look different in the game than in the editor
In-game lighting shades your character, so colors appear darker than on the flat canvas. Check the skin in a bright, daylight area first; if it still feels dull, nudge your base colors slightly brighter in the editor.
The exported skin does not appear in the game
Re-run the export and follow each import step in order, making sure the skin is applied to the profile you actually play on. If it still does not show up, fully close and restart Minecraft — the skin list is refreshed on launch.
Limitations and compatibility
- Skins are exported in the standard layout used by Minecraft, with both classic and slim model types supported.
- The in-app export flow targets Minecraft: Bedrock Edition on the same device; for other setups, save the skin image and import it manually.
- Custom skins do not apply on servers or worlds that force their own skins or restrict player appearance.
- JoyTellect Skin Maker is free to download with optional in-app purchases.
